#21earlydays

You know that feeling when you look at your phone in the morning with one eye shut, and realise you have 15 minutes to get to where you need to be.

The rush to the bathroom. The heart palpitations. Shovelling through a pile of clothes to find that one top, you just have to wear, even though you're already 15 minutes late. No breakfast, a scruffy cup of coffee, and one frustrated Uber ride later you find yourself at work with little to no knowledge of who, what, when, where, how or why this all came about.

I hate that feeling. But truthfully, winter and the cold weather usually has a lot of us spiralling into a routine that is, for lack of a better phrase, a little more sluggish than normal.

With Spring coming up, and getting up from under the duvet becoming a little more tolerable, I decided to conduct an experiment. I watched a TEDx Talk the other day called "How waking up everyday at 4:30 AM can change your life." Although, the talk itself was not riveting the idea behind it was, and so I took up the challenge. Just as a test. I adjusted it to suit my needs, and decided to make 7:30 AM my target time since I am not an early bird whatsoever. It's a start ...

I woke up today at 7:30 AM on the dot. First thing I did was drink a glass of water; studies show it helps ignite your metabolism. I put some water in the kettle to boil, then hopped into the shower and proceeded to listen to The Cutting Room Floor Season 3 episode 3. My favorite podcast and fashion’s only fashion show.

I made a cup of coffee, and had boiled eggs with cream cheese on brown toast for breakfast. Best of all, I finally found time to read a couple of articles out of Kinfolk.

I'm sure a lot of you are natural born early risers, but for some of us the struggle is very real. I thought I would share my experience, one I hope will truly last 21 days - the length of time that is said humans need to form a habit - and maybe longer.

Finally, before leaving the house I did 5 Minutes of Morning Yoga with Adriene - linked below - basically a quickie stretch for those of us with the attention span of a goldfish at any point pre 12PM.

Namaste radical people.

Work hard, stay positive, and get up early. It’s the best part of the day.
