RED: In Search of Perspective

RED: In Search of Perspective

Sometimes when you think of a color, for now, let’s just call it red, a million tiny images pop up in your mind.

Red flags. Red cherries. Red ribbons. Red lipstick.

Then suddenly you’re stuck. In a world of just red. Red records and buildings. Red pants and red chairs. Red roses. Lots and lots of red roses.

You feel your train of thought narrow, as though all the other colors of the spectrum just dissipated. As though maybe there was never even another option but red.

You get in your car and cruise around just to clear your mind. But all you can spot are red traffic lights and red fire hydrants. Red stop signs and red nail polish. Red ketchup splattered all over a bright red large box of Mcdonald’s fries.

So how do you get rid of all this red? How do you find perspective?

Red wine maybe? … F*ck.

You park your car, and put on the radio. Red lights all around. A stranger knocks on your window. You jump and roll down the glass.

He asks, “Ever thought of the color blue?”

“Get in.”

The end.

This Improv piece signifies Feature I of a three part project on the impact of color in our lives entitled The Glare Project.

In red neon light you looked like death. You also looked beautiful.
