My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy on VINYL
Okay, I have a wedding to get to in two hours.
But I had to get this entry in. If you are a newcomer to the vinyl world like myself, and are just starting a fresh collection, buy the Special Edition of Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Yes, it's an older record and Pablo is out now – the merch is haunting our Instagram feed as we speak - but who cares?
This record represents a pivotal point in Rap and R&B history; allowing genuine art, dance, filmography and literal color to enter these respectively more marginalised and stereotyped genres.
If you were around or online when the Runaway music video came out, then the image of Kanye on top of an Upright Piano with a brigade of stunning ballerinas behind him will pop up in your mind right now as it did in mine.
He is an artist, in every sense of the term, despite ups and downs as well as questionable actions. I am a fan of his process - read our analysis of the Madison Square Garden Yeezy Season 3 show here - this is arguably one of his best records, featuring the likes of Bon Iver, Jay Z, Kid Cudi, Nicki Minaj, John Legend and more.
I cannot emphasize enough how much of an utterly radical gift this was. I got the full record pack for Christmas, it includes three square posters of insane album artwork featured in this article as well. As well as an extensive set list; the package itself is a work of art.
It also features one full blown poster of the majestic dancing ballerina that graces the album cover, and some incredible typography sprawled across the casing.

It’s cherry bomb red cover with gold adornments is perfection, and the album title written all over the 3 piece record set casing in gold make is frame-able on every level. It is epic. My most coveted record set yet.
Ps. Full version of Runaway on the third record, it sounds incredible on vinyl. Have a lovely Christmas everybody!
