N by Natalie: A Modern Fashion Designer for the Ages

It's never too late to start.

N by Natalie is an Egyptian based fashion label for womenswear exclusively founded by Natalie Akrabova. As an Italian designer, who started working in fashion when the industry was at its inception in Egypt during the 80's, we spoke to Natalie to gain some insight on new beginnings and picking up where you left off in the constantly evolving and unpredictable fashion world.

How did you get started in the fashion industry?

I started in the fashion industry in Egypt in the 80's and 90's, I used to own a high-end women’s boutique and atelier in Mohandesin. I created and produced my own exclusive models in limited quantities. After taking a break for several years, for personal reasons I am now back again, but this time with a brand specializing only in women’s shirts, tops and blouses - N by Natalie. It is a young brand that, I hope, will find a fertile ground in Egypt to grow and become an important player in the Egyptian fashion scene.

Why did you decide to venture into womenswear? Why not accessories or menswear?

Fashion itself was created for women was it not? There are endless possibilities to be creative in womenswear – invent and reinvent. For me menswear is quite straightforward in certain ways – pants, shirts, jackets etc. As for accessories, maybe one day I will incorporate them as well as a part of the brand.

What is the persona of the woman who you picture wearing your pieces?

Elegant, stylish, independent, self-confident and a little rebellious.

Where would you like to take your brand in the coming year?

N by Natalie is a young brand so my first priority is to get it firmly established on the Egyptian market. In the meantime, through social media, I hope we can reach other countries and become a small part of the global fashion industry.

N by Natalie's latest collection can be viewed above, photographed by Karim Medhat and styled by Farrah's Studio,  and is available through their Instagram account for orders online.

Playing dress-up begins at age five and never truly ends.
