Velvet Dreams: A Celebration of the Return of Vintage Inspired Fabrics
The word vintage has now become a very loosely used term, but since wearing velvet makes me feel like I dug my jacket out of a treasure chest from the 1900's. It applies here and in this context.
Regardless, there is a feeling you get when you touch this particular fabric, that makes you want to wear it forever.
Its smooth shimmery texture allows your hand to glide across it. There is nothing boring about velvet and if you have 15 minutes to get ready for a friend's wedding for example, and need to look as though you put in the effort to look your absolute best, a velvet dress, blazer, choker or clutch even, is literally all you need.
Even better than cashmere, although incomparable to the slippery delicacy of silk; velvet is my all time favourite clothing fabric ... or at least at the moment. If you do not own at least one item of clothing in this form, then you're missing out on what might be the silliest of style-related experiences.
So in honour of the hopefully permanent return of such an elegant fabric to the spotlight for this fall/winter season, here is a list of a few of my top velvet picks and where to find more.
Ps. Anyone of you lovely readers living in Cairo should head over to homegrown brand Fufa's BO-HO HO Christmas event tonight to get your hands on some locally produced velvet goodness.
