Love Me Now & The Darkness and Light Tour
In honour of John Legend announcing ticket sales for the Darkness and Light Tour yesterday, here is a review of Love Me Now the album's number one single.
I was listening to Love Me Now non stop when it first came out a few months ago. I feel like it's rare these days to find a song that truly hits an emotional cord on a global level, the thing is, it's hard to do both simultaneously. The original We Are The World pretty much took the cake in terms of songs that have the ability to resonate universally, but leave it to John Legend to write a love song that, essentially, becomes a song about everything.
I've been following Chrissy Teigen - his wife - on Instagram for the past year, and her humorous, humble and charming personality makes it obvious where the inspiration for such a piece came from. This is a women that does not underestimate nor exploit the power of her fame; on the contrary she shares with us her daily routines, showing a world of desensitised millennials that something as simple as an Egg & Bacon breakfast can bring us all together. It does not have to be controversy nor nudity or profanity. She is a natural woman, and by that I mean she gives us an open virtual invitation into their home. It's not hard to see why he is so inspired by their love.
This song tells you to live in the moment, to believe that life is precious and temporary in all its forms, and equally to us all; it tells us to love ... whoever it is and whatever it is ... now.
John Legend's music is raw and sincere. Listening to it once through I was already tearing up by the end, the video is worth watching, capturing beautiful instances in humanity.
